Earmolds & Earplugs
Protecting your hearing is important. Though most people know that long term exposure to loud noises can lead to hearing loss, many simply do not realize how many loud sounds they are exposed to on an everyday basis.
As a result, hearing loss caused by excessive noise is far too often discovered when it’s already too late for the damage to be repaired.
Many everyday machines and situations can be particularly damaging to your hearing. Chain saws, lawn mowers, jet engines, construction equipment, garbage trucks, and more can all be dangerous for your ears—especially when exposure is repeated over days, weeks, or months.
Your hearing can be protected by using earplugs. However, store-bought earplugs only offer a limited amount of protection. Custom earmolds and earplugs are specifically designed for your ears, and therefore offer the highest level of protection against hearing loss.
Custom Earmolds
Earmolds are a type of hearing protection that fit over the outside of your ear, and are custom-designed for the shape of your ears.
Earmolds come in various shapes and sizes, and can be made from different materials. Full-shell earmolds cover the entire ear, and are suitable for the highest levels of noise exposure. Half-shell earplugs can be more comfortable to wear, but offer slightly less protection. Either type of earmold can be made of solid material, or of soft, spongy material.
For musicians, and people working in high-noise environments, earmolds with filtered attenuators are quite popular. The filter allows you to hear speech while still blocking dangerous high-intensity noise. These filtered earmolds are available in both electronic and non-electronic forms.
All custom earmolds are tailor-made to your exact specifications. This means that they fit the unique shape of your ears, and are comfortable to wear. In addition, earmolds can be made for speciality applications: fitting over the top of earbud headphones, for example, or under pilot boom-mic headsets.

Custom Earplugs
Earplugs are a more familiar type of hearing protection. They fit inside the ear canal, and can offer good protection against dangerous levels of noise.
Earplugs are available to buy from many stores, but some people find that generic earplugs are uncomfortable and do not provide the level of protection they require. Custom earplugs are the solution: by making earplugs specially designed to fit your ear canals, the highest levels of comfort and protection are ensured.
Earplugs can also be made with a range of special circumstances in mind. Healthcare professionals and musicians often use earplugs that allow them to hear speech whilst still protecting their hearing. Custom earplugs are also popular amongst swimmers, hunters, and those merely wishing to get a good night’s sleep!

Comfort and Protection
Whatever your needs, your audiologist will be able to provide advice on the best way to protect your hearing. An appointment with a hearing professional is a great way to learn more about the risks to your hearing, and what you can do to mitigate them.
This is especially important if you work in a high-noise environment, or are often exposed to other loud noises (such as in a rock concert). Even if you don’t think you are exposed to loud noises that often, it is still worth checking your hearing from time to time to be doubly sure: your hearing is important, and it is important to look after it.
